WADB BOOSTS BENIN WATER SUPPLY PROJECT

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - The West African Development Bank (WADB) has granted Benin a loan of 6.68 billion CFA francs to part finance the extension of water supply network in the south of the country, official sources said in Cotonou Sunday. (540 CFA francs=1USD).
The loan was approved by the Bank's 58th session in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, recently.
Figures from the Benin Energy, Mining and Water Supply ministry, show that nearly half the country's urban population has no access to safe drinking water.
Between 2001 and 2004 some 2,777 boreholes and other water points were established across the country, but sections of population are still not covered.
